Annual Dinner 2008 -
What a fantastic night was had by all! With all four of our teams being promoted this year it was always set to be a famous night at the club. Stewart with Ric and his bar and waiting staff didn't disappoint. With over 75 people attending it was a busy old night at the bar.
The evening kicked off with a wonderful 3 course meal, that seemed to go down extremely well with everybody. Then quickly onto the main event, the awards. With stict instructions to keep the speeches down to a minimum (in order to maximise dancing and drinking time) The nominations were announced and awards presented. A particularly nice touch to the evening was the amount of people who wanted to get up and present their own special awards to those that had made a difference to their season. This alone not only proved what a successful club we have, but also how much everybody appreciates the little and not so little contributions people make in the "background" So many sports club claim to be friendly places, however Lymm Hockey Club proved it genuinely is a great place to be. The final award, presented by Chairman Andrew Scowcroft was The Malcolm Blinkhorn award, an award named after the late Malcolm Blinkhorn who did so much to encourage Hockey at a Rugby Club. The worthy recipient this year was Mark Ham, who gave an emotional and very personal speech who typical to his nature, tried to deflect his efforts and hard work over the years as a "team effort" Cue - A Standing Ovation
There was one last award, presented to Stewart Buckeridge who this year announced his offical retirement from the committee and to who we all owe a great debt. Stewart is a founder of Lymm Hockey Club and through these early years has been instrumental in so many ways he almost single handed has guaranteed the future success of the club. Stewart was presented with a picture of the first ever Lymm hockey team.
Then onto the important business of celebrating season 2007 / 2008. I am sure the stories and laughter from the night will filter through the club during the summer break.
