28/11/09 Bowden 6's - 0
Lymm - 5
Lymm this week showed that they were back to the high standard they are used to.  They dominated the match from the start and within minutes Jess Dorman had put the team in the lead.  The opposition knew that Lymm were out to win and seemed less determined than last week.  The 2nd goal came from Elly Davy and the team went into half time feeling confident.

With some good coaching from Ben at half time the girls knew they had more to give and the opposition rarely touched the ball in the second half.  Some excellent crosses from Jess Dorman and Jo Aldridge created opportunities for Lymm but although there were plenty of dramatic dives at goal from team capatain Nicki Hansford the ball just didn't want to go in the back of the net.

The third goal came from Alison Fearn shortly follwed by a fourth from Jo Aldridge.  The opposition were clearly tiring on the fast pitch where as Lymm were utilising it to their advantage.  There were some brilliant runs from Jess and Jo and the ball rarely reached the Lymm defence.  Nicki found herself face to face with the opposition goal keeper who came out of her goal to make the challenge.  Nicki saw the gap on the left and skillfully slipped the ball to Alison who secured the 5th and final goal of the match.

Opposition Player of the match Elly Davy
Players Player Elly Davy
D of the day had to go to Claire Dobson who obviously didn't realise she was there to play hockey and had no stick or shin pads.

Special mentions
Thank you to Jim for umpiring and to Ben for supporting and providing the guidance that the team needed.

14/11/09 Neston 2's - 1
Lymm - 2

This week Lymm took a squad of 13 to a very posh Neston.  In the first half it was clear that Lymm had underestimated the strength of the opposition who had some very strong defensive players.  They were very quick off the ball and were utilising the self pass to its full.   Lymm on the other hand were taking their time to settle in.  Lymm only had a few chances on goal and just couldn’t seem to get the ball passed the goal keeper.  A free hit from the opposition found itself wedged in Nadeen Roe’s foot who then had to go off with a nasty injury.  (We all hope it gets better soon).  The cold rain and wind wasn’t helping matters and although there was some excellent work from Sally Bircham and Lucy Tondzeil in the midfield, Lymm were not playing at their usual standard.  The opposition were very physical and Clare Ellis received a crack on the eye from the Neston goal keeper’s stick and a couple of minutes later a free hit was awarded to Neston which at flew at full pelt into Nicki Hansford’s arm.

A battered a bruised Lymm went into half time at 0-0. The Lymm team, were frustrated but team Captain, Nicki Hansford encouraged the team to pick themselves up and fight for the win.  Having lost Nadeen to the side line Sam Foxall had replaced her in the middle. The opposition had also made some changes at the back and had lost their star defender for some reason! The passes started to come and the team had started to gel again.  A few short corners were awarded to Lymm but unfortunately the strikes went wide.  Sam took control in the centre midfield and was charging through the opposition to get the ball towards the D.  The ball went in and a fantastic strike from Lucy got Lymm’s first goal.  A sigh of relief came from all the girls who started to feel more upbeat.  Finally Lymm started to look like they were playing hockey.  There were some young fast players in the Neston team and there were some tense breaks from their centre forward but Katy Arber made some brilliant tackles to keep her at bay.  Lymm battled on and the second goal finally came from Alison Fearn.    Neston weren’t going to give up and once again their centre forward broke away and despite Tash Ives making several saves the goal went in.  There was only 6 minutes left and Lymm knew they couldn’t give up.  Sam was pushing on to keep control in the midfield and working brilliantly with Sally to get Lymm a few more short corners.  A change of tactics on the short corner was decided and Alison had great shot on goal but the ball unfortunately went wide.  Not before time, the final whistle blew and the girls were relieved and pleased they had won after a very physical rough match.

Opposition player of the match was awarded to Sally Bircham and players player was awarded to Sam Foxall who both deserved the recognition

07/11/09 Lymm 5

South Cheshire 2's - 0
This week the 2nds were down to 11 players with only two regular defenders being Helen Hunt and Keira Fleming in the squad.  Team Captain Nicki Hansford was confident that Lymm were going to win and decided to only play 3 at the back so Nicky Jones stepped into the shoes of a defender as well.  It was clear from the start that Lymm had control of the game with ball remaining in the South Cheshire’s half of the pitch for the majority of the 1st half.  It wasn’t long before Alison Fearn scored the first goal, bypassing the strong defence of South Cheshire.  She cracked it into the right hand corner where the goal keeper couldn’t get anywhere near it.  It was only a matter of minutes before the second goal of the match came along from Nicki Hansford making the score 2 – 0.  From then on South Cheshire rarely got a chance to touch the ball with some strong passing coming from the midfield between Lucy Tondzeil, Nadeen Roe, Sally Bircham and Clare Ellis.

Jo Aldridge (a fairly new member to the team) was playing wide on the right.  A very determined and motivated Jo played in 5th gear throughout the match utilising her young legs and pace to keep everyone on their toes.  Jo sent a brilliant cross to Nicki Hansford who secured the 3rd goal.  Lymm were on a roll and the ball was stolen from South Cheshire as soon as they pushed it back.  There was some very comfortable skilful passing between Clare Lucy and Nadeen.  Clare had possession of the ball and caught sight of Jo flying down the right hand side into the perfect position.  A huge hit from Clare got the ball straight to Jo who stormed into the South Cheshire D passing the ball to Alison who popped in the 4th goal.

The second half wasn’t so productive and Lymm seemed a little tired.   South Cheshire had stepped up their game and had managed to get the ball into the Lymm D.  Keira and Helen defended well but a shot came out of nowhere.  Tash Ives made an excellent save getting it back to our players and up the field.  It was the first and only touch that Tash had throughout the game and this gave Lymm the push they needed to get back on form.  There was some good passing through the midfield and Jo yet again was in the perfect position to receive the ball on the right hand side.  She was thirsty for a goal and the goal keeper knew it, so much so that Jo was completely taken out by the goal keeper and landed in the goal. Unfortunately without the ball!! She got up brushed her self off and powered on to help set up the 5th and final goal which was scored by Alison.

Overall the team played well and it was evident that everyone is starting to gel as a team.  South Cheshire commented on how nice it was to play us despite their defeat in what was a very friendly and enjoyable match.  They had some excellent defenders who worked extremely hard to keep Lymm at bay but they just couldn’t manage it.

Jo Aldridge deservedly was nominated player of the match by the opposition and Nadeen Roe as players player for her efforts in midfield.
31/10/09 Wilmslow 3's - 0

Lymm 4
This weeks match proved to be a very physical match against Wilmslow 3rd team at their home pitch.  Team Captain Nicki Hansford gave a very positive pre-match team talk which meant the 14 strong squad went out with a fighting attitude.

Lymm took time to settle into the first half with some strong defending from centre back Carolyn Smith and Katie Arber ensuring the ball rarely reached the Wilmslow D.   Clare Ellis was able to pass the ball wide following an excellent call from Claire Dobson who injected the ball to the D securing a short Corner.  Alison Fearn then took a straight strike at goal ensuring that Lymm went one nil up.

The team spirit lifted and more structured passes were sent wide utilising Lynn Pymans speedy runs along the right wing.  Working together with Nadeen Roe, Lynn steamed past the Wilmslow defence and sent in the second goal of the match.  Lymm were still a little nervous going into half time but with some advice from our 1st team supporters the team went into the 2nd half more determined to succeed.

A more feisty Lymm took a grip of the second half straight away utilising Kiera Flemming Claire Dobson and Carolyn Smith at the back to switch the ball, tiring the Wilmslow side.  Some strong runs in the middle by Clare Ellis and Nadeen Roe got the ball to the forwards and straight into the D.  It wasn't long before Nicki Hansford took her signature strike at goal and sent in the 3rd goal for Lymm.

Nicki made the decision to make some changes to the front of the team by bringing on Jo Aldridge who wasted no time in getting on top of the goal and slipping in Lymm's 4th goal.  A number of short corners in Lymm's favour followed but the team were unfortunate not score.

Overall this week the team proved they can play some quality hockey and are developing each week.  The support from some of other club members encouraged the girls to work hard and prove that promotion is easily within reach.  A very disgruntled Wilmslow didn't want to give us a player of the match which proves that Lymm are frustrating the big clubs with their continued success!

Special mentions

MVP – No vote because Wilmslow were grumpy.
Players player was voted as both Carolyn Smith and Lynn Pyman.

Thanks to Tash Ives (Goal Keeper) continued effort in supporting her team even though she rarely saw the ball...

A thank you to Lisa Hartley-Woodrow for umpiring and to the other club members who came to support us.

19/09/09

Sale 0 Lymm 9

The 2nd team got off to a flying start this season with an extremely impressive performance.  Any nerves that had been present at the start of the match, were soon forgotten, when within the first ten minutes Nadeen Roe opened the scoring and slotted home the first goal of the season for Lymm. It wasn't long before Alison Fearn and Nicki Hansford had added to the score sheet. At half time Lymm were well in control of the match being 5 nil up.  The second half saw even more attacking hockey from Lymm, who simply refused just to sit back on their lead, and were hungry for more goals. With some sharp passing stemming from defence through to the strikers, 4 more goals were added to the account. Had the Sale goal keeper not been on form, the score line could have been a lot more, however the final result was Sale 0 Lymm 9. It was extremely difficult to select a player of the match as all 12 players on the day gave 100% and contributed to the team. Opposition player of the match was awarded to Sally Bircham who had an excellent game holding the midfield and being involved in some of the build up to the goals, this nomination was fully deserved!
Bring on Northop Hall !!!
